Spotting arthritis in senior dogs: signs owners often miss

By age 8, more than 60% of dogs show signs of osteoarthritis. But owners often dismiss the symptoms as normal aging.

Look for: reluctance to climb stairs or jump on the couch, stiffness after rest that improves with movement, lagging on walks, or licking specific joints.

Modern arthritis care is excellent. Daily joint supplements (glucosamine, omega-3), vet-prescribed pain relief, weight management, and gentle daily exercise can dramatically improve quality of life.

Avoid human pain medications like ibuprofen — they're toxic to dogs. Always consult your vet before starting any treatment.
