Monsoon brings welcome relief from the heat — but for dogs, it also marks peak tick season. Warm, damp grass and dense foliage are the perfect breeding ground for ticks.
Step 1: Check your dog daily, especially around the ears, between toes, under the collar and along the belly. Ticks attach in soft, hidden spots.
Step 2: Use a vet-recommended preventative. Spot-on treatments and oral chewables both work — your vet will suggest the right option for your pet's weight and lifestyle.
Step 3: Keep the lawn trimmed and avoid tall, wet grass during walks. Stick to paved paths when possible.
Step 4: Bathe with a gentle, vet-approved shampoo weekly during peak season. Avoid human shampoos — they disrupt the skin barrier.
Step 5: If you spot a tick, remove it carefully with a tick hook or fine tweezers, grasping close to the skin. Save it in a small jar so your vet can identify the species if symptoms appear.
